Serena Williams Speaks Out About Emergency Operation

Posted by holly On March - 10 - 2011

Serena Williams has opened up about her emergency operation to remove a blood clot, according to Now magazine. She told The Today Show:

“I am lucky to be alive, I could have died.

I had a lot of swelling in my leg – the tell-tale sign of an embolism – and I could not breathe.”

She explained:

“I developed a large haematoma in my stomach. I apparently must have hit something. What started out the size of a golf ball ended up the size of a grapefruit.”

I’m glad Serena is okay and recovering. How scary for her to have developed this!

Serena Williams Hospitalized for Blood Clot in Lungs

Posted by holly On March - 2 - 2011

Tennis star Serena Williams was hospitalized on Monday, February 28, 2011 after suffering a blood clot in her lungs. Serena needed emergency treatment at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in L.A. for a haematoma, a pooling of blood caused by a haemorrhage.

Serena also had a health scare last week when she was diagnosed with a blood clot in her lungs after a trip to New York where she was treated for her injury to her foot. Serena’s rep told People.com:

“(On) Monday Serena Williams underwent emergency treatment at Cedars for a haematoma she suffered as a result of treatment for a more critical situation.

Last week, Serena suffered from a pulmonary embolism which was discovered upon her return to L.A. She had been in New York for doctor appointments for the ongoing issues with her foot. Doctors are continuing to monitor her situation closely to avoid additional complications.”

Our thoughts go out to Serena. Get well soon!

On Saturday Kobe Bryant became the first non-actor to be honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He not only dipped his hand in cement but also his foot as well.

“I feel like I’ve grown up in this city, and we’ve had a lot of ups and downs, but here we are-five championships, plenty of more to go, and I just feel extremely honored to be able to do this.”

Congrats to him on being the first non-actor added to the Hollywood walk of Fame. I’m sure this will open the door for more athletes to be added in the future.

Carrie Underwood Banned from Ottawa Radio Station

Posted by holly On February - 11 - 2011

Former American Idol Carrie Underwood is going to be banned from a radio station in Ottawa because her hubby Mike Fisher has been traded from Ottawa Senators to the Nashville Predators, according to The Canadian Press via Yahoo News.

The 30-year-old has spent his entire NHL career with the Senators.

The radio sation New 1053 KISS FM has labeled the trade “a betrayal to our community” and Fisher “was lured from Ottawa by a country-music superstar.”

Carrie should have expected some backlash for taking hubby away from Ottawa! One thing Carrie should’ve known when she married a Canadian hockey player is that Canadians take their hockey pretty damn seriously.

Brett Favre Finally Retires From Football

Posted by holly On January - 3 - 2011

It’s the announcement that we’ve been waiting to hear for what seems like forever and unfortunately for Brett Favre it came just after his team the Minnesota Vikings lost to the Detroit Lions in their final game of the season. Here’s what he had to say on retiring:

“I know it’s time, and that’s OK. It is,” Favre said. “Again, I hold no regrets, and I can’t think of too many players offhand that can walk away and say that. Individually and from a team standpoint, it was way more than I ever dreamed of.”

“I don’t know for me if it’s ever easy,” Favre said. “I’m sure throughout this year, the comment has been made that, ‘We’ll wait and see in August or September’ and that’s fine. It’s time. I’m OK with it.”

I bet he never thought this was how things would play out, this season has been filled with injuries, scandal, and not the greatest stats he’s ever had. I like so many others are glad to see him go, he should have just called it quits when he left Green Bay.
